Metropolitan Water District’s ‘generous’ Colorado River offer hurts Salton Sea hopes

“I told them Metropolitan would be willing to go ahead and sign off for California, in the absence of the Imperial Irrigation District being willing to do that. We would make both IID’s and Metropolitan’s water contributions,” MWD General Manager Jeffrey Kightlinger told The Desert Sun’s Janet Wilson.

That move, Kightlinger believes, would mean the entire process could be wrapped up without any say at all from IID, which holds the largest and oldest rights to Colorado River water.
